The world we live in today seems radically different from the world of thousands of years ago. We regularly hear of uprisings, terror, instability, violence, natural disasters, famine, plagues and disease, death, conspiracies, and more. When we look back over time, it seems that so much back then appeared better than the present time, and people were calmer and happier.

The World has Never Been in A State of Rest

Of course, there were diseases, wars, and calamities then, but they were not commonly as severe, as long-lived, or as frequent as we are currently experiencing. At least, that is what we chose to believe. Yet, ever since the time when Adam and Eve sinned, the planet has never truly been in a condition of sustained rest and harmony. There has always been something that brought significant stress, fear or uncertainty to man’s well-being.

Sin has Been Degrading the Planet

Why is this? It is due to one three-letter word that few ever desire to hear or mention: sin. Ever since the first rebellious actions of the initial two people thousands of years ago, sin has been continually degrading and altering the planet, along with its inhabitants. The changes in the climate, the vile and evil thoughts and actions of individuals, the outbreaks of deadly viruses and other sickness, and so on, are all due to our refusal to submit to the One who created us.

Even though our wisdom and intelligence are generally capable of defining and eventually providing solutions for conditions like these that may arise, they will still never cease to exist. In fact, they will continue to intensify until the whole world, and even the universe, is totally corrupted and destroyed!

Sin Cannot Be Controlled

Sin cannot be totally controlled. We will never reach a place where we can live peacefully with sin in our lives. The whole world continues to be in a state of constant upheaval due to the battle between sin (disobedience to God’s word and laws) and truth or righteousness. The Bible says, “…ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Therefore, when we do not know, accept, or follow the truth, we remain in bondage, captive under the control of sin and all of its by-products. As long as society as a whole continues to rebel against or reject God, we can be certain that there’ll be more and greater calamities and destruction.

Our Remaining in Sin Will Result in Hell for Eternity

The evil in men’s hearts will only increase and worsen, until the point of death. The life in our physical body will end, but our soul and spirit, which never die, will continue on for eternity in a place called Hell if we remain in sin. In Hell, we will find nothing but perpetual torment and agony. Every opportunity we ever had in our physical life to avoid eternal punishment will continually be replayed before us there. But when the time comes for us to make a decision to turn from sin, the whole episode will abruptly end, only to replay again and again forever.

God Never Wants Us to Remain in Sin

Yet it does not have to be this way. In fact, God intended for His creation to live in complete rest in Him. He has no desire to see us in our current sinful condition. It was never His choice to pronounce judgment upon anyone. But, as long as we continue to live out our life without considering Him, the world will become worse and worse—with both innocent and guilty being impacted by the results of our sin. That is why God sent His Son to earth over two thousand years ago to die on a cross. He came in order to pay all of the penalties of sin that applied to us, in our place.

Jesus Freed Us From the Bondage of Sin

Jesus made it possible for us to be free from the bondage of sin and the sentence of eternal death, or permanent separation from God. While we will continue to be impacted by the effects of the sin from the rest of the world that remains in rebellion, we will no longer have to endure under the domination and fear of it. We will not have to suffer repeatedly without hope, or live in confusion. Jesus said, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed [without a shadow of a doubt!]” (John 8:36).

If Jesus is in control of our life, we do not have to wonder how we are going to make it from day to day. Instead, we can have eternal confidence in Him. When problems arise (and they will), we are to just turn them over to Him and leave them there. No more will we agonize over how we are going find a solution. All of our anxiety is needless with Him in charge.

With Continued Rejection of God, Sin Will Remain Rampant

As long as the world continues to reject God and His Word, sin will remain rampant, affecting everyone from the youngest to the oldest. It will ultimately escalate to a point where this world will be totally corrupted, along with everything remaining in it, and will no longer exist. But, thankfully, there is an answer and a solution for the future of the whole human race: Jesus Christ. He provided a way out of the fear and uncertainty that presently exists everywhere. When we allow Him into our heart and put Him in charge instead of ourself, we can have hope forever. No longer will we continue to have concern about death and the unknown that lies beyond it.

Jesus Brings True Peace

Are you unsure and alarmed about the events happening around the globe? Do the news broadcasts leave you in a state of apprehension and distress? Are you frequently worried about the future? Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). Therefore, why not make the decision today to turn your life over to Jesus, and let Him put your heart and mind at ease?
